Congress passes bill to develop water projects

WASHINGTON—On May 22, 2014, Congress adopted the conference report for HR 3080, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2013. The conference report reconciled differences between the Senate’s version of the legislation, S 601 and HR 3080.

Adoption of the conference report authorizes $12 billion of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop water related projects. The conference report also streamlines the development, selection and planning process for water projects.

The legislation now heads to the president for his signature. While generally focused on larger costal and river related projects, the Navajo Nation has worked closely with the Army Corps on flood plain delineation and water resources development.
