Navajo President Delivers Historic MOU to Capitol Hill
WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Feb. 9 Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly delivered a memorandum of understanding signed by the Navajo Nation and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to New Mexico Sen. Jeff Bingaman who serves as chair of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
The lab will assist in providing a snapshot of all energy possibilities on the Navajo Nation including clean coal technology and renewable energy development. Further, the lab will provide an accurate depiction of tribal natural resources and guidance on developing best practices on utilizing those resources. The lab will also provide technical assistance.
This is the first time a tribal sovereign entity has entered into a partnership with the national laboratory.
